From Pittsburgh to Wilmington: How SadieLane Home Organizing Grew Across Pennsylvania and North Carolina

Now that you know how I went from banking to becoming a professional home organizer, you may be wondering something else: Why does SadieLane provide professional home organizing services in both Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, North Carolina?

I would love to tell you that story.

If you haven't yet read the story of how I went from banking to becoming a professional home organizer, I'd love for you to start there. It's the story of how Sadie Lane began—and it makes this next chapter make a lot more sense.

I started SadieLane Home Organizing in 2022 in Washington, Pennsylvania, just outside of Pittsburgh. Back then, we were Sadie Simplicity Home Organizing, our name changed in 2024 due to similar names being in business in the Wilmington area.

The business got off to a wonderful start. I began building a name for myself, meeting incredible clients, and forming friendships that became a meaningful part of my life.

Then, about two years later, a friend asked me to move to Wilmington, North Carolina, to run her bed-and-breakfast.

My immediate response was, “Absolutely not.”

Move to North Carolina? Why would I do that? My business was in Pennsylvania. My friends were there. My life was there. The idea felt far too big and disruptive to seriously consider.

But then a few months passed.

I don’t have a large family in the Pittsburgh area, although I do have many friends and people I love deeply. Thanksgiving came and went, and it was quieter than I would have liked.

That quiet gave me space to reconsider.

My children were grown and building lives of their own. I was entering a new season of my life. Suddenly, moving to Wilmington—only about 15 minutes from the beach—didn’t sound quite as unreasonable.

Maybe it was an opportunity for a new adventure.

So I said yes.

But I had already worked hard to establish SadieLane in Washington, Pennsylvania and the greater Pittsburgh area. I had clients I cared about, relationships I valued, and a business that was beginning to grow. I didn’t feel comfortable simply walking away from everything I had built.

Instead, I began experimenting with a different way of growing the business.

I started finding and training subcontractors who shared my values and my approach to organizing. I wanted people I could trust—people who understood that this work is not really about creating picture-perfect closets.

It is about helping people feel less overwhelmed in their own homes. It's about helping people find their peace, beginning at home.

Building a team from another state has definitely been a learning process. There have been lessons, adjustments, and plenty of moments when I had to figure things out as I went.

But it has also worked.

Today, I have a growing team in the Pittsburgh area made up of thoughtful, like-minded organizers whose philosophy aligns with mine. I travel back to Pennsylvania several times a year to work alongside them, meet with clients, continue their training, and strengthen our relationships as a team.

In case you were wondering, I no longer run the bed and breakfast, but it was fun while it lasted! I have moved on to live in the historic district in downtown Wilmington.

At the same time, I am continuing to build SadieLane here in Wilmington, working with local clients and creating a strong team in North Carolina.

It has been an exciting road.

This experience has helped me grow as an organizer, a businesswoman, a leader, and a human being. It has taught me that sometimes the path forward does not require leaving everything behind. Sometimes it means finding a new way to carry the best parts of your old life into your next chapter.

I’m incredibly grateful for the people who have trusted Sadie Lane in both Pennsylvania and North Carolina, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the next several years take us.

And who knows?

We may eventually pick up another city or two.
